My darling nephew just came for a visit. He’s an adorable 1 year old plus 2 months. Just tonight, I was telling his mother how different I felt for him. Something in that baby keeps pulling me towards him with sheer love. He has this incredibly innocent pair of eyes and the softness in them just makes me want to cradle him in my arms and kiss and hug and play with him for as long as I can. His parents have been my favorite couple from the day they got married and now I can’t thank them enough for giving me such a beautiful nephew that brings me so much joy! He makes me forget my woes and fills me up with a new kind of love.
I’ve never felt this way about kids. True I always loved babies but my nephew brings out a feeling in me so much more strongly. Is it because at one time I desperately wanted a baby of my own? Or because so many times, I dreamed my baby boy smiling happily in my arms? Ignoring that wish doesn’t stay suppressed for long, does it? Once the longing crosses her, a woman feels it every time she sees an innocent babe smiling back at her because she is always meant to be a mother. I’ve never talked about this side of me; but it must be said, to celebrate one more wonder and magic only meant for a woman. Only the heart of a woman can contain such an immense amount of love. And while I’m at it, let me call out to mine; Where are you my Baby? Mama’s waiting!
