Pictorial Tour of Deosai (Gilgit-Baltistan)
A beautiful view of the Sheosar Lake, one of the several dozens of water reservoirs found on Deosai

As you descend into the Astore Valley from Deosai, the human settlements appear, displaying an exquisite beauty, where men and nature live in harmony, most of the time.

Astore Valley is a truly amazing tapestry of natural colours. This photograph reminded me a drawing in one of my childhood text-books.
Astore, one of the most literate districts of Gilgit – Baltistan, has still retained some ancient technologies, like this watermill, present close to a glacial stream.

In order to reach the Deosai Plains one has to travel uphill on a paved road from both sides, Skardu as well as Astore. This photograph was taken while moving up the path from Skardu side.

The freshness of air and vastness of the valleys makes one stretch, take deep breaths and rejoice, ecstatically.

Small sized vehicles are best suited for Deosai because the road is not metalled and one has to travel through two bridges which are only suited for light vehicles.

The construction of this bridge has eased movement through Deosai, but to some this ease has come at the cost of adventure. Before the bridge was constructed, the tourists had to wade through this huge river, to reach their destination

The bridge is only suited for lighter vehicles. During peak seasons the bridge gets flooded.

Known as “Kala Pani”, this relatively smaller river can be crossed easily before noon. It gradually gets difficult to go across the water level increases with the passage of time, towards the evening time.
