CloudBerry Backup : Block Level Backup – Scheduling Full Backup

Posted on 01 February 2012 by Tea Server

CloudBerry S3 Backup is a powerful Windows program that automate backup and restore processes to Amazon S3 cloud storage.
One of the things that were not very clear in the previous version is how to schedule full backup again. This might be necessary for the following reasons:
1. The total size of differential backups outgrow the size of the full backup.
2. To make for a more efficient restore so that you don’t have to restore one year old full backup and then roll over a large number of differential backups
3. To make more efficient retention where you can purge older unnecessary differential backups after the new full backup is completed.
The newer version of CloudBerry Backup 2.6.2 comes with the ability to force schedule full backup. We have introduced an additional step called Block Level Backup
There are the options to run Full Backup periodically according to a schedule. There is also an option to force full backup if the total size of all differential backups is larger than a certain % of the last full.
image001

We have also added an option to Force Full Backup to the Backup Plans tab so that you can quickly run full backup when necessary.
image003
We hope this option help you keep your storage size more efficient and the restore process faster. As always we would be happy to hear your feedback and you are welcome to post a comment.

Posted on 01 February 2012 by Tea Server

In an era where making the shareholder happy is priority number one, its refreshing to see a company like Amazon looking towards a more long term strategy, after announcing the intentional allocation of retained earnings towards expansion baskets instead of chunky profits for stockholders. Obviously share prices fell nearly 9% following the announcement, but like [...]

How to Choose the Right E-Reader

Posted on 29 January 2012 by Tea Server

If you love to read, chances are that at some point recently you’ve wondered if an e-Reader is a device worth owning. With an e-Reader, you can store your own personal library on one small device, eliminating the possibility that your growing number of paperbacks and hardcovers will one day threaten to overrun your house. You will also find that with a reading device, you will be able to purchase books for considerably less and even download some for free. Due to their rapidly increasing popularity, there are many different e-Readers on the market to choose from.

best e reader How to Choose the Right E Reader

Here are some things to consider when shopping for an e-Reader so that you can pick the one that’s just right for you.

Downloadable Material

When you’re comparing e-Readers, it’s a good idea to check out the selection of reading material available for download. If you buy a Nook, you will be purchasing your e-Books from Barnes & Noble, for example, while the Kindle’s supporting library is Amazon. It’s important to make sure that the source you will be purchasing titles from has an adequate selection of materials for you to download. Also, you’ll want to find out what formats are supported by each type of device. The more formats it will support, the more sources you will be able to get your reading material from. Some e-Readers will only allow you to download from their e-Bookstore. Take into consideration what your downloading limits are ahead of time so that you’re not disappointed later.

Storage Capacity

Different models of e-reading devices come with different amounts of available storage space–and the number of e-Books each one can hold without purchasing additional memory ranges anywhere from 1,500 to 50,000. Some models come with varying amounts of built-in storage, giving you, the reader, a choice within that particular line. How often do you read, how many books do you typically buy within a month’s time? How about within a year’s time? Come up with a rough number that covers you well into the future to help you determine how much storage space will be adequate for you. You don’t want to have to delete purchased titles to make room for new ones–however you can always purchase additional storage in the form of a memory card if needed.

Look and Feel

Let’s face it–if the e-Reader you end up buying isn’t gentle on the eyes or comfortable to hold, you’re going to wish you had stuck to your trusty, old paperbacks. When choosing an e-Reader, consider screen size and brightness. If you tend to read a lot of magazines or newspapers, you’re going to want a larger screen to accommodate your media. A smaller screen will have to do if you’re looking for the most compact model, although most of them are fairly compact as it is. For readers that like to read for extended periods of time, the e-ink displays from models such as Kindle and Sony might be preferable. Even in sunlight they’re easy on the eyes because e-ink most closely resembles actual print on paper. Another thing to think about is the weight of each device. Some are heavier than others, so if you can, check them out in stores even if you’re ultimately going to buy one online. You’ll definitely want an e-Reader that is comfortable to look at and hold if you plan on using it a lot.

Features

Pay attention to special features that each model of e-Reader offers when you’re trying to determine which device will be best for you. Some e-readers have a backlight, while others have a built-in reading light, for instance. Other popular e-Reader features include touchscreens, LCD screen displays, e-ink displays, internet access, and more.

Battery Life

If you will be using your e-Reader for extended periods of time without access to a power source, you’ll want to choose a model that has an extra-long battery life. Some e-Readers only have a battery life of eight hours before they run out of juice while others can go for weeks at a time without recharging. A gadget with a lengthy battery life may cost a little more than the competing e-Reader, but the extra money might be worth the added convenience.

Cost

E-Readers vary in price–and largely depend on all of the factors that have been mentioned here including storage capacity, features, screen size, and battery life. In order to stay within your budget, ask yourself what you really need in an e-Reader before committing to one. If you can’t afford a touchscreen gadget with internet access, don’t get one. Remember this device is meant for reading–all of the extra features you can find on pricier models are great–but they aren’t necessary when money is tight. Compare prices when you shop, both in-store and online to help you locate the best deal on the e-Reading device you decide to buy.

It’s amazing to think that one can carry an entire library of books with them everywhere they go, and e-Reading devices have transformed that once impossible notion into a clear reality.  E-Readers have truly become one of today’s must-have electronic gadgets for book-lovers the world over–and with several models to choose from, you’re sure to find the perfect e-Reader.

Amazon Affiliate Program Tips for Beginners

Posted on 18 January 2012 by Tea Server

Amazon.com runs one of the most well-established affiliate programs online. It’s free to join and easy to set up. However only a fraction of affiliates make significant income. To boost your sales and earnings, try these tips.

Amazon Affiliate Program Amazon Affiliate Program Tips for Beginners

Build Your Reputation First

No one will rely on the product recommendations of someone they don’t trust. If you want people to buy the Amazon products you advertise, you have to persuade them that you are an authority on your subject. Begin by writing great content for your site. Focus on useful articles that have no obvious commercial benefit to you, just informative. You may even want to put off selling Amazon products until your reputation is more or less established after numerous articles and positive feedback from visitors. Once you have demonstrated your expertise in your niche, it becomes easier to convince people to buy products through your site.

Write Honest and Helpful Reviews

When the time comes to publish reviews, give it your best. You want to convince people that you have personally tried or viewed the item. You want to give them insights they wouldn’t get from a product description. Explain the pros and cons, who the product is suited for, its overall value, etc. Don’t try to sell a product too hard as it could affect your credibility. No matter how awesome a product may be, it can’t be for everyone. Let your readers decide whether or not it’s for them.

Use a Variety of Links, Buttons and Widgets

Have you heard of the term “banner blindness”? People habitually ignore the most obvious banners and ads on the Web. If you get a low product conversion, it could be that people turn a blind eye to your Amazon ads. Use a combination of plain text links, widgets and buttons (without cluttering your site). Some will get a better response than others, so experiment.

Use Different Tracking IDs.

It’s important for the Amazon affiliate to know which links and which pages generate the most income. Unfortunately, Amazon doesn’t offer much detail as far as clicks and referrals go. One way to analyze your data better is with the use of tracking IDs. You are allowed multiple tracking IDs in the same user account. Just create a unique ID for each website or page that you want to track. To do this, log in to your Amazon affiliate account, click “manage” on the left menu and click “Add Tracking ID.”

Advertise Higher-Priced Items for Bigger Profits

Amazon gives only small commissions per sale, starting at 4%. If you want bigger earnings, you need to sell more expensive items– a hundred dollars and up. If this doesn’t suit your niche – for example, if you sell mostly books – your only alternative is to recommend a lot more items. But beware of overdoing this. You don’t want Google or your visitors to see over-commercialization or spamming in your site.

Affiliate marketing won’t make you rich overnight. But with zero startup costs, a solid reputation and a broad range of products to choose from, there’s no reason to pass up Amazon’s affiliate program. Do your homework and wait for that paycheck.

How to Edit Multiple Files with CloudBerry S3 Explorer directly from the Cloud

Posted on 17 January 2012 by Tea Server

As always we are adding features to make it easier for our customers to use the functionality to offer the most compelling Amazon S3 , CloudFront and IAM client on Windows platform.

In the previous release you could only edit a single files directly from the cloud. E.g. you double click the file and open an associate program to work with it. When you save it the updated version would go directly to the cloud storage.  you could work this way with only one file.

In this release we are adding a feature that allows editing multiple files directly from the Cloud and save them to the Cloud.  e.g. you can have multiple Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, etc open at the same time and when you save them the updated version gets uploaded to the cloud directly.

This feature lays the foundation for using Amazon S3 with CloudBerry Explorer as a document management solution. You can create IAM users, assign policies to work with specific buckets and files, then use CloudBerry Explorer to share the files within your organization.

Creating Custom Short URLs for Amazon

Posted on 03 January 2012 by Tea Server

amzn.toAs you may noticed in tweets and emails newsletters, the short URL of any product page on Amazon.com has a standard format that looks something like amzn.to/XYZ.

The path portion of Amazon short URLs is made of random digits and alphabets but if you wish, you can also use a more memorable string as a short URL. Here’s how:

Go to bit.ly and sign-in using your Facebook or Twitter account. Next paste any Amazon URL into the text box and hit the Shorten button.

Bitly will generate an amzn.to URL with a random suffix but you use the “Customize” option (see video) to set any other string as the suffix for that short URL. For instance, I reserved the following two URLs for my eBook that I published last week.

1. amzn.to/MyKindleBook
2. amzn.to/MostUsefulWebsites

These URL suffixes (or keywords) are shared across the bitly ecosystem so if someone has reserved a particular keyword with another website that also uses bitly (like nyti.ms or 4sq.com), it won’t be available for your Amazon Short URL.

One more thing. All products listed on Amazon are assigned a unique ASIN code (it is listed in the item’s description) and you can just add this code to amzn.com to quickly create a short URL. Here’s an example – amzn.com/B006R4RN3U.

The same technique may be extended to other websites that are configured to work with bit.ly – these Facebook (on.fb.me), BBC (bbc.in), The Wall Street Journal (on.wsj.com), The New York Post (nypo.st) and others.

“The Most Useful Websites” – Available as an eBook

Posted on 31 December 2011 by Tea Server

book cover

I am excited to share that my first ebook – The Most Useful Websites – is now available for sale in Amazon’s Kindle Store.

This book is a collection of 150 undiscovered, practical and incredibly useful websites that will enhance your productivity. The table of contents should give you an idea of what’s available inside the book.

If you don’t have a Kindle, you can still download and read the book on your iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, Windows PC or the Mac using the various Reading Apps. Or you can use Amazon’s Cloud Reader to enjoy this book offline in your web browser.

The book is priced at $3.99 but unfortunately, Amazon adds a $2 Whispernet delivery surcharge for International users. I do plan to make this book available on Apple iBooks, NOOK, Sony Reader, Kobo and other e-readers.

Thanks much and I hope you find the book useful. Have a happy new year!

Affordable Laptops: How to Get the Best Value for Your Money

Posted on 24 December 2011 by Tea Server

Making the decision to purchase a laptop isn’t a choice that should be made lightly.  Ideally, your laptop purchase should last for several years, so it’s important to find a model that meets your needs and is built to last.  Unfortunately, not all laptops are created equal, which is why it’s so important to do your research ahead of time to be sure you get the best value for your money.
Affordable Laptops Affordable Laptops: How to Get the Best Value for Your Money
Here’s what to look for in your next affordable laptop purchase:

Build Quality

Unlike desktop computers – which remain relatively stationery throughout their lives – laptops are moved around all the time, resulting in bumps, dings and even drops.  This is why it’s so important to look into a potential laptop’s build quality, as lower price-point models are often built with inferior materials in order to bring costs down.
But how do you ensure that the model you’re thinking about purchasing is built well enough to stand up to daily wear and tear?  The best way to do this is to actually get your hands on a store model to feel for yourself.  As you shop for affordable laptops, pick up each model you’re considering and see if it feels sturdy in your hands.  Does the screen feel too flexible?  Does the frame feel like it will stand up to frequent use?  If not, check out another model, as there are plenty of well-built budget laptops to be had.
If you aren’t able to handle a potential laptop before buying, check the manufacturer’s website or a shopping portal like Amazon for customer reviews.  People rarely hold back online, so you’ll quickly get an idea of how sturdy your chosen laptop is!

System Status

Beyond build quality, it’s also important to check out the system itself.  Although it can be confusing to sort through all of the numbers associated with a potential purchase, it’s important that you do your research ahead of time so that you don’t wind up with a laptop that doesn’t meet your needs.
At a basic level, you should look for a laptop with at least 2 GB of RAM and 250 GB of storage.  If you plan to run programs or games that require huge amounts of resources, you’ll need to bump up these numbers considerably.  But for most basic users, these criteria will provide a reasonable running environment without driving cost.
In addition, look for a laptop that’s running the latest version of its operating system (currently, Windows 7 for PCs).  While you can save some money by purchasing a model with an older edition, be aware that certain features may not be supported and that the platform may not be as secure as the newest versions, which have been tested against the most recent security threats.
With these criteria in mind, set a budget that you’re willing to spend on your laptop purchase and commit to sticking within this frame.  Sure – it isn’t realistic to think that you’ll find a new laptop with all the features described above for under £100, but you also don’t need to spend £1,000 just to find a model that will meet your needs.  Well-built, well-featured laptops can be found for between £300 and £500, allowing you to buy the laptop you need without breaking the bank.

Making Money Online with Proven Techniques

Posted on 21 December 2011 by Tea Server

These days, there are a lot of different ways to cash in on the Internet. If you’re interested in making money online and you haven’t decided yet how you plan to do it, take a moment to read about ways that other people have made money online.
Making Money Online Making Money Online with Proven Techniques

Are you willing to invest?

One of the most important questions you need to ask yourself if you’ve decided that you’re going to figure out a way of making money online is whether you’re willing invest a little bit of money into a project in order to get it up and going. You can build a web site selling a product or service and then market the web site and try to sell to people visiting your web site. You can also build a web site with the intention of having lots of visitors who would click on advertising at your web site. Though both of these tactics can generate a lot of money if you do things just right, both of them also require you to invest a little bit of money up front in web site development. If you’re not willing to spend some money to get your web site developed and marketed, these methods of making money online may not work for you.

Have Relevant Knowledge? Do-It-Yourself

Perhaps instead of making money online by building a web site, you would be willing provide some type of advice in an area where you have expertise via online portals that support experts or advisors. A number of web sites today allow individuals with a background that lends itself well to advising to sell their advice for a fee. Typically advice and expertise is sold by the minute and people contact experts and advisers all hours of the day through these web portals. Signing up is usually quick and easy, which makes this option for making money online easier in many ways than building your own web site and trying to market it.
Of course, there are other ways to make money online. For example, you could try to tap into the Internet writing industry or take up the art and science of doing SEO work to market other people’s web sites. If you can’t handle rejection or if you don’t enjoy the fast pace of working with multiple clients, this method of making money online may not be for you. You could always take a college course in web site design and development and cash in on the Internet using programming or design skills. Web developers are in high demand, if you have the mind for that kind of work.

If you’ve decided that you’re going to try to make money online then you need to think carefully about how you want your lifestyle to be after you’ve achieved your goals. Making money online doesn’t mean that you aren’t working for a living. You may be able to work from home if you make your income online, but that presents its own challenges. To be successful at making money online you have to be clear about what you actually want and what you’re willing to do to get it.
