Monday Blues!
April 18th, 2008Monday’s are a drag and we all know that. It’s the beginning of a long and hard-working week (unless you are one of the blessed-few who’s daddy owns mills and you can laze in bed till the sun sets!) and the weekend is no where in sight. It makes you feel like you are swimming helplessly in the middle of the Atlantic with no coastline or land in sight for as far as you can see!
I am being a little too paranoid…!
But isn’t this how our national swimmers must have felt when they came empty handed from the recently held 9th FINA World Short Course Swimming Championships in Manchester? Poor lads and ladies (yup there were four ladies in the squad of 13 too), they couldn’t go past the preliminaries. But every cloud has a silver lining they say and our came in the shape of the series victory against Bangladesh (phew… yup we were all shit scared if Pakistan would repeat it’s World Cup stints            yet again!). Rock on Salman and Kamran for your brilliant centuries!
The weekend that we all just sadly left behind today was a rocking and happening one despite a few irritating moments… thanks to dear old Taffi Baby (aka Altaf Hussain of MQM). What was this harp about stepping down and creating a mass hysteria in Karachi? This guy amuses me. There are heights to how much one will do to get a sympathy vote of confidence outta their supporters and this guy does just that… period! And now they say they want to sit in Opposition, which is causing so many heart-burns for PPP that Mr. Zardari has said, hell I’ll go to London my self to pamper my Taffi Baby and convince him ‘pyaar se’! So much for the plans of a national coalition government!
Over the weekend I stumbled across an interesting post on the Lahore Metblogs that was titled: ‘mourning delights…?’ and contained two pics of a lawyer and an un-named woman in a kurta and denims walking, laughing, and hugging with another lawyer… at a protest for their lawyer brothers who were burned alive in Karachi last week. Hmm! They look cute together as the pics seem to suggest but seriously… would you go to a funeral and hug and laugh? Don’t think so. Sadly though, the plight of our so called ‘awaam’ is in dire needs of justice these days but hey wait… the courts are empty coz the lawyers are out there protesting and cancelling court sessions months after months to revive back judiciary! Surely the struggle to restore a handful oldies is much more important than the fact that cases are piling up in the courts all across the country right? Who cares about the common man. Restore this dude and that’s all the Pakistani Law community is about these days. How very sad!
I’m sure after all this it comes as no surprise if we are among the 36 states in the world facing serious food shortage crisis ! Who cares, right?
